ONE STEP. TWO EXTREMES.
Powerful Correction + Exceptional Finish
Traditionally, aggressive cutting and ultra-high-gloss finishing required separate products and multiple polishing stages.
REFINISH ULTRA is engineered to bring these two opposite characteristics together.
During the initial polishing stage, its advanced abrasive particles provide the cutting action required to correct significant paint defects.
As the polishing cycle progresses, the abrasive system transitions toward a more refined finishing action, helping minimize secondary polishing marks while increasing surface clarity and gloss.
The result is an efficient one-step correction process capable of delivering both powerful defect removal and a highly refined finish.
THE EVOLUTION OF REFINISH TECHNOLOGY
From Multi-Step Polishing to Advanced One-Step Correction
Automotive polishing compounds have continuously evolved to achieve stronger correction, shorter working times, and better finishing quality.
TACSYSTEM's REFINISH technology represents this progression from traditional multi-stage compounds to an advanced one-step correction system.
1ST GENERATION — IRREGULAR ABRASIVES
First-generation polishing compounds used irregularly shaped abrasive particles ranging approximately from 70–20 μm.
During polishing, these particles could fracture unpredictably, potentially creating additional microscopic defects on the paint surface.
Detailers therefore needed to work through multiple stages, gradually progressing from aggressive compounds to increasingly fine polishes.
This process, often referred to as a traditional polishing system, could require three or four separate polishing stages.
Even after completing multiple stages, swirl marks or other fine polishing defects could remain.
2ND GENERATION — CONTROLLED ABRASIVE GEOMETRY
Second-generation compounds were developed to improve abrasive consistency and reduce the secondary defects associated with earlier polishing technology.
These products used smaller and more uniform abrasive particles, described as having an approximately octagonal geometry.
The improved particle structure helped reduce unwanted swirl marks during correction.
However, polishing time remained relatively similar to first-generation systems, and both generations commonly relied on petroleum-based carrier technology.
3RD GENERATION — TACSYSTEM REFINISH R1 / R2 / R3
Advanced Water-Based Polishing Technology
TACSYSTEM advanced beyond conventional petroleum-based compounds by developing the water-based REFINISH R1, R2, and R3 polishing system.
The REFINISH abrasive structure was engineered with a multi-faceted geometry that can appear triangular when represented in two dimensions.
This design provides highly effective cutting action during the initial polishing stage.
As moisture gradually evaporates during polishing, the cutting action decreases in a controlled manner.
Toward the end of the working cycle, the resin system helps surround the abrasive particles, reducing uncontrolled abrasive action and allowing the surface to become progressively more refined.
This technology significantly improved polishing efficiency and helped reduce traditional multi-stage correction processes to approximately two or three stages, depending on the paint condition and desired result.
4TH GENERATION — REFINISH ULTRA
Advanced One-Step Compound Technology
In 2015, TACSYSTEM further developed its REFINISH technology with the introduction of REFINISH ULTRA.
Rather than relying on a conventional multi-stage abrasive approach, REFINISH ULTRA was engineered around specially processed alumina abrasive particles designed to combine powerful cutting edges with refined finishing characteristics.
This advanced abrasive structure allows REFINISH ULTRA to deliver two traditionally opposing characteristics within a single product:
Extreme Cutting Performance + Extreme High Gloss
The result is an advanced one-step polishing compound designed to dramatically improve correction efficiency without sacrificing final surface quality.
WHY THE UNIQUE ABRASIVE SHAPE?
Engineered Alumina Abrasive Technology
The distinctive performance of REFINISH ULTRA comes from the structure of its specially processed alumina abrasive particles.
The alumina particles begin with a rounded, irregular structure.
During manufacturing, the particles undergo a controlled high-temperature treatment followed by rapid cooling.
This thermal process causes the alumina structure to contract and fracture, producing particles with distinctive sharp-edged profiles described as crescent- and half-moon-like shapes.
These cutting edges provide the aggressive abrasive action required for effective defect removal.
At the same time, the extremely fine particle structure helps reduce the tendency to create severe secondary polishing marks, allowing the surface to become progressively more refined as the polishing cycle continues.
This combination is what enables REFINISH ULTRA to achieve both strong correction and exceptional finishing performance in one polishing step.
EXTREME CUT + EXTREME GLOSS
Correction Power Without Compromising the Finish
REFINISH ULTRA is designed to address a broad range of paint defects, including:
- Sanding marks
- Severe swirl marks
- Localized scratches
- Moderate correctable scratches
- Moderate water spots
- Oxidation
- Wash-induced paint defects
- Previous polishing marks
- General clear-coat imperfections
Its strong initial cutting performance removes or significantly reduces correctable defects, while the progressively refined polishing action helps restore surface clarity and gloss.
The result is a cleaner, smoother, and highly reflective paint finish with minimal secondary marring.
ONE-STEP PAINT CORRECTION
Reduce Steps. Reduce Working Time. Maximize Results.
Traditional paint correction may require separate heavy-cutting, intermediate-polishing, and final-finishing stages.
REFINISH ULTRA is designed to simplify this workflow.
By combining strong cutting and finishing characteristics within one compound, it can significantly reduce the number of polishing stages required for many paint-correction jobs.
Depending on paint hardness, defect severity, pad selection, machine type, and desired finish, REFINISH ULTRA may be used as a true one-step correction solution.
For extremely demanding correction or show-car-level finishing, additional polishing stages may still be used where necessary.
PAD SELECTION = PERFORMANCE CONTROL
REFINISH ULTRA's versatile abrasive system allows its performance to be adjusted through pad selection.
For Maximum Cutting Performance
Pair REFINISH ULTRA with an appropriate heavy-cutting pad to increase defect-removal performance.
For Balanced One-Step Correction
Use a medium cutting or polishing pad to achieve a balance between defect removal and finishing quality.
For Maximum Gloss & Refinement
Pair REFINISH ULTRA with a softer polishing or finishing pad to emphasize surface clarity, gloss, and refinement.
Actual performance will vary depending on paint hardness, paint condition, machine type, pad selection, polishing speed, pressure, and working technique.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
- Shake well before use.
- Make sure the paint surface is clean, cool, dry, and free of loose contamination before polishing.
- Always begin with a new or thoroughly cleaned polishing pad. A contaminated or excessively loaded pad may introduce additional surface defects.
- Select an appropriate pad according to the required level of correction and desired finish.
- Apply an appropriate amount of REFINISH ULTRA evenly across the face of the polishing pad.
- Spread the compound evenly over the working area before beginning the main polishing cycle.
- Work the product using a rotary or dual-action (DA) polisher with controlled, overlapping movements. REFINISH ULTRA may also be used by hand where appropriate.
- Continue polishing through the working cycle until the desired level of correction and refinement has been achieved.
- Remove remaining compound residue with a clean microfiber towel.
- Inspect the surface under suitable lighting for remaining scratches, swirl marks, haze, holograms, or other defects.
- Repeat or refine further where necessary.
TIP: Clean the polishing pad frequently throughout the correction process. Accumulated paint residue, spent abrasive, and contamination can reduce cutting performance and may introduce additional marring.
ROTARY + DUAL ACTION POLISHING
REFINISH ULTRA is compatible with both rotary and dual-action (DA) polishers.
The final balance between cutting performance and finishing quality can be adjusted through machine type, pad selection, polishing speed, pressure, and working technique.
For professional one-step correction, always perform a test section first to determine the most effective machine and pad combination for the specific paint system.
REFINISH ULTRA VS. REFINISH R1 / R2 / R3
MULTI-STEP PRECISION OR ONE-STEP EFFICIENCY
The traditional TACSYSTEM REFINISH system provides a progressive approach to paint correction:
REFINISH1 — HEAVY CORRECTION
Maximum cutting performance for severe paint defects.
REFINISH2 — MEDIUM CORRECTION & REFINEMENT
Balances defect removal with improved clarity and gloss.
REFINISH3 — FINAL FINISH
Removes fine defects and maximizes surface clarity, depth, and reflectivity.
REFINISH ULTRA — ONE STEP CORRECTION
Combines powerful cutting performance and high-gloss finishing characteristics in a single compound for faster, more efficient paint correction.
Choose the appropriate system according to paint condition, defect severity, working time, and the desired final result.
